Full view, pleeeeeeeease!!!

So for this assignment, we were given a list of twelve Greek gods, each of which were paired with a specific month. We had to pick a god and do a calendar illustration based on them. Since Hermes has always been my favorite, that's who I decided to do! Even after a very successful critique, I wasn't too sure about this piece, but I think I'm starting to warm up to it. (I LOVED the assignment, though. It was lots of fun, and now I want to do all the other gods too! ^_^) Hermes was paired up with the month of October.

Hermes is known for being a trickster, and for being a bit of a thief. And of course, the piece is meant to be kind of reminiscent of ancient Greek vase painting... Yay the limited color palette for the vase paintings also happened to work well for the Halloween theme. ^_^

Oh yeah, it was done with ink, then colored in Photoshop.

Oh, sweet jeebers. This is the most amazing, most wonderful, most outstanding picture I've seen on DA in a long, long time. Mind you, since Hermes is my patron god, I'm a bit biased, but in all seriousness, even if he wasn't, I'd STILL love this picture. You really caught his playful side, and I adore that mask. Great perspective, too. Can't say enough good things about this.
