So for this assignment, we were given a list of twelve Greek gods, each of which were paired with a specific month. We had to pick a god and do a calendar illustration based on them. Since Hermes has always been my favorite, that's who I decided to do! Even after a very successful critique, I wasn't too sure about this piece, but I think I'm starting to warm up to it. (I LOVED the assignment, though. It was lots of fun, and now I want to do all the other gods too! ^_^) Hermes was paired up with the month of October.
Hermes is known for being a trickster, and for being a bit of a thief. And of course, the piece is meant to be kind of reminiscent of ancient Greek vase painting... Yay the limited color palette for the vase paintings also happened to work well for the Halloween theme. ^_^
Oh yeah, it was done with ink, then colored in Photoshop.
Kinda...reminds me of Loki. I never realized Hermes was a trickster too, how amusing. Lovely work, wait I just realized that he stole the kids candy! (it's really late) How mean! Awsome.
THat is brilliant. I love the color, and modernized greek feeling. Especially the pattern around the edge. Also, gotta love those boney wings on his sandles.

Brilliant concept! Such a hyperactive god would devote his time and energy to stealing candy, too!
I love the color scheme. Definitely captures the 'ancient vase' feeling. All the detail is wonderful, and I feel like I could just let my eye wander through for hours. I love the bones in Hermes' wings, too.
